2019-2020 Academic Year Spring Semester Registration Freezing Announcement

Considering the COVID-19 global epidemic that occurred after the start of spring semester education, the end of course add-drop process in higher education institutions, that some students did not have the opportunity to continue distance education during the semester, the following decisions were taken at the Higher Education Executive Board meeting on 31.03.2020:

  1. It has been decided that students enrolled in associate, undergraduate and graduate degrees at higher education institutions can freeze their registrations  in the spring semester of the 2019-2020 academic year upon request from the higher education institutions they are enrolled in and the period of suspension will not counting as the maximum period.
  2. In addition to this, students who are at the thesis stage in graduate education;

Whether the subject, qualification and nature of the theses are available, and whether they can benefit from the enrollment freezing process in the event that there is no opportunity to continue their thesis with distance education, will be evaluated and decided by the university board of directors by taking the opinion of the thesis advisor.
  2. In this process, it has been decided to give additional time for the students who are in the thesis period and whose maximum duration is over.
  3. It was decided to take into account the effect of the global epidemic and the conditions of the student in determining the dates of thesis submission, defense and proficiency exams. It has been also decided that thesis defense and proficiency exams can be conducted with digital facilities "provided that they are carried out in an auditable environment and conditions and are definitely recorded." In addition to this, students also can use the possibility of postponing and freezing registration.
  4. It has been decided that these decisions will be limited to the 2019-2020 academic year Spring semester.

In this respect, our students who enrolled in the Spring semester of the 2019-2020 Academic Year but cannot attend classes because they do not have the opportunity to continue distance education, our students are required to submit their applications to [email protected] e-mail address until the end of work on Thursday, April 30, 2020, in order to freeze registration in the Spring semester of the 2019-2020 Academic Year.
